King must follow Cyclone, even though King was the original. As in, King was fundamentally formed any other character. That’s how I remember it, anyway. But any way you cut it, King’s been with me a long, long time. Before there was my world, there were stories with King, or this King of Yore if you will.
I went outside my comfort zone with this art commission! I wanted to try something a bit more cartoon-y compared to the other more moodier artwork I’ve had commissioned. And I really wanted to get King or one of the more armored/alien characters done. So I commissioned Malgamma for King Fla’neiel (after some back and forth of figuring that out, haha)! The Process It was pretty easy and straightforward, as I had a great deal of references for King in...
After four and a half years of rotting in a corner, I have resurrected the Adventures of the Trinity and the One Character Quiz! Hequera and Balon have been added and the backend has been refactored considerably. The questions have been streamlined too. It’s not perfect, but it’s kinda fun. Check it out here!
Throughout my journeys with commissioning character portraits, a failure of mine has been put out into the open: my failure to really ‘see’ some of my characters faces (the Humanoid ones especially). This is a weakness of my visualization and my mind’s eye. I know it and accept it, but it’s also relatively well hidden. The last of the first four afterwords/forewords—the one for Of Fractured Edges. This...this one might be the most intense of them, emotionally. Longest as well for sure. Most spoilerific too, so beware.
I made another little movie on How to Stop Wildfire. This time, it has music custom made and inspired by the book! It was made by Josh B. It is a wonderful track. The theme of the video is King Fla'neiel's journey. Nothing too spoiler-y, just a good beginning overview. It was a bit hard to make, but I did it. Learned a lot of new techniques. Did some crappy drawings just for it. Enjoy!
