Series Tarot Major Arcana Matching: Part 2

Part 2 of the Tarot Major Arcana matching series! Part 1 is here. Quoted meanings are taken from The Pictorial Key to the Tarot. Major arcana #8, Fortitude, is Strength in my deck so I’m using that. However, the meanings in my guide for Strength/Fortitude are slightly truncated, so I’m using the full one from the Key to the Tarot.

More spoilers in this one for later books in the series as the connections to the Major Arcana draw from more recent events. Beware!

7 - The Chariot: Xesh, Chag, and Tosh

Succour, providence; also war, triumph, presumption, vengeance, trouble. Reversed: Riot, quarrel, dispute, litigation, defeat.

The trio of CLAW Wolfen…their journey takes from intense success and providence to crushing defeat. They are joined by Hequera and successes come from their union. They triumph together, despite some internal ‘quarreling’. But…it ends in defeat at the hands of Malcolm Zfnoc, due in some small part to their desire for vengeance.

The Chariot works well for them. I could see the three of them riding a chariot to some illusive victory…and getting into trouble along the way. Maybe crashing in the end.

8 - Strength: Balon

Power, energy, action, courage, magnanimity; also complete success and honors. Reversed: Despotisim, abuse of power, weakness, discord, sometimes even disgrace.

This one was tricky. I had Balon pegged for another slot and then, after discussion, put her on Strength and I agree with it now. With Containment Collapse, the reversed side is apparent with her wanton use of the Spider of Dark. The regular side: Balon is powerful, full of energy and drive…maybe not always honor and courage, but Balon prides herself in her strength so here she is.

9 - The Hermit: Lana Zfhi/Paewar Zfnoc

Prudence, circumspection; also and especially treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption. Reversed: Concealment, disguise, policy, fear, unreasoned caution.

Despite their smaller presence within the books, Lana Zfhi and Paewar Zfnoc have made a lasting impression on the series. At first, I was only going to have this be Lana Zfhi. Lana Zfhi conspired for years to achieve her goals: She was a hidden puppeteer of things, cautious and calculating. She concealed her intentions and desires to commit ‘treason’ against the dogma of Zfnoctewoohi. And, on the more direct connection to the Hermit: she is also somewhat of a hermit.

But also listed is corruption. Corruption that leads me to think of Paewar Zfnoc. And, beyond that, Paewar Zfnoc did the same and is the same, for different reasons. He concealed the Spider of Dark and the return of Malcolm Zfnoc due to something like fear. He fell to the corruption of dark for reasons related to fear and trying to be ‘rational’ and maybe ‘cautious’. And he tended to be akin to a hermit as well.

So they both deserve to be here under the banner of The Hermit.

10 - Wheel of Fortune: Fate/The Universe

Destiny, fortune, success, elevation, luck, felicity. Reversed: Increase, abundance, superfluity.

The Wheel of Fortune is one where…it kind of works as it self. I don’t really know if the wheel of fortune has to have an analog, but if it does, it’s the concept of Fate/The Universe. The design would probably be some abstract representation of the forces of reality (mana/aura, elements, dark and light). Not much else to say here.

11 - Justice: Sargon

Equity, rightness, probity, executive; triumph of the deserving side in law. Reversed: Law in all its departments, legal complications, bigotry, bias, excessive severity.

Sargon has been an agent of fair, sane afterlife processes. He believes he is right (and is vindicated). His opinions are recognized as correct and deserving and met as such. Of course, there are complications getting to this point, but Sargon is right and now he holds the executive power so to speak…The Grim Reaper would also be included on this card for contrast and as they become one.

And that’s part 2!
